In a scathing attack Acer president Gianfranco Lanci indicated strong dissappointment over the quality and offerings in Windows Vista. I had a die hard Microsoft loyalist unusually quiet after his upgrade to Vista. He complained about the memory requirements (which by the way was not an issue for him given that had 2GB) but he was beginning to dislike the Microsoft attitude of taking users for granted when it came to resources.
User grudgings apart, we are increasingly seeing signs of the competition heating up. We are seeing a lot chatter about a Web OS. Google and Facebook are going to play a very key role in this transformation of how we see computing. Google has invested in Office like applications with precisely that in mind. It may not be mature enough to take on Office but that will happen in due course. Facebook with its acquisition of parakey has made its intentions very clear that it want to be a dominant player in this next chapter of computing.
